SUNSHINE II

SUNSHINE II
“Sunshine II” is a custom-built, durable strip-planked wooden Hampton boat. Hampton boats first appeared in the late 1800s, evolving from oar power to sail power, and eventually to motor power. She was launched in 1994, hull #53 of 113, built by Richard Pulsifer in Bowdoin, Maine. Pulsifer Hampton boats are known for their beautiful form, precision craftsmanship, and sensible design, constructed using the traditional planking method.
This process utilizes wood that is flexible, straight-grained, and carefully seasoned. “Sunshine II” was constructed from native pine, oak, and cedar, hand-selected by local woodsmen and sawn to exact specifications. Wooden boats are peaceful, as they absorb sound rather than amplify it. “Sunshine II” embodies craftsmanship without pretension. From coastal cruises to island picnics, harbor tours, and fall foliage excursions, our customers can enjoy some of life’s greatest moments aboard our Pulsifer Hampton. “Sunshine II” is not a speed boat—you will travel at a pace that allows for relaxed enjoyment of your surroundings. The boat’s easy motion is remarkable, offering a comfortable, secure sense of well-being. It is truly a work of art, both in design and construction.

Captain Anne Murphy
Anne learned to sail at the young age of 6 in York Harbor, Maine, just a few miles up the coast from Portsmouth. A passionate sailor, she grew up boating with her family (both power and sail) and feels more at home on the ocean than on land! Anne has been navigating the local waters for more than 30 years. She holds a U.S. Coast Guard license for motor or auxiliary sail vessels up to 25 tons. Anne loves sharing her knowledge of the local history of New Hampshire and Maine’s coastal waters, harbors, and coves.
